Good Night's Sleep Campaign

Children’s Hospice Helped By Good Night Sleep At York Hotel

A York hotel is counting on the comfort of its beds to help boost the fundraising efforts of a children’s hospice.

The BEST WESTERN Monkbar Hotel is one of a number of organisations and businesses in North Yorkshire which has got into bed with Martin House Hospice, to support its Good Night’s Sleep campaign – which is backed by BBC Radio York.

The appeal aims to raise £120,000 which will go towards a planned respite stay for as many as 50 North Yorkshire families, who have a child with a life limiting illness.

On check out, guests will be asked to fill in a form confirming they had a good night’s sleep. This, together with a minimum donation of £1, will be put into a draw to win a weekend stay at the hotel.

In addition, the staff are planning to hold a coffee morning and cake sale later in the year, with all proceeds going to the charity.

Over the last five years the hotel has raised nearly £40,000 for Martin House, which is Yorkshire’s only dedicated children’s hospice.

The majority of the money has been raised through the adoption of cuddly “Marty” bears, which guests are encouraged to take home with them in exchange for a small donation.

Graham Usher, Monkbar Hotel General Manager, said: “We always love working with Martin House Hospice, and we are delighted to be supporting the Good Night’s Sleep scheme.

“Thanks to the generosity of our past guests, we have been able to raise tens-of-thousands-of-pounds for Martin House, and this new initiative gives us another reason to pull out the stops for it, and ensure our future guests are well looked after.”
